How To Overcome Objections And Sell More

By: Jonathan Jay

No matter what product you sell or service you provide you must think about customer education.

Maybe once upon a time there was a sucker born every minute, but not anymore. Twenty-first century prospects are more educated and have more information and research available to them at their fingertips than ever before. This is in large part due to the Internet’s information superhighway. But it is also a result of the bright light that media commentators shine on marketing, alerting consumers to manipulative techniques.

Fear is the greatest roadblock to many purchases, especially high- ticket products or services. It is an emotion that takes many shapes:

• Fear of overpaying
• Fear of looking stupid
• Fear of buying a lemon
• Fear of not buying the best
• Fear of buying it when they really didn’t need it
• Fear that they won’t get the benefits that were promised
• Fear that you won’t stand behind your product
• Fear that they won’t be able to obtain a refund if they made a wrong choice

Your customers want information and credible advice. What they DON’T want is a sales pitch. The best way to overcome the fears that keeps consumers from buying is to educate them. When you focus your marketing efforts on educating, the customer it’s called Education-Based Marketing (EBM).

EBM is a way to sell without selling.

Highly educated consumers have the ability to differentiate the benefits of products or services in their own minds, which gives them a sense of comfort and security. Comfort and security help a consumer hurdle their fears which, in turn, it gives them the green light to buy your product.

How much education is required? Good question! It varies from product to product. The amount of education you need to give to a prospect is based on the value of your products or services and the customer’s awareness of your products or services.

But make no mistake about it: the more informed a consumer feels, the more likely he/she is to buy now. And that’s exactly what you need to make your business (and your profits) grow.

The following 21-point copywriter’s checklist will help you inform, engage, and ultimately SELL:

The ‘21 Club’ of Copywriting

1. Don’t talk about yourself; it’s not about you!
2. Keep it AIDA simple ─ create Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action.
3. Test your headlines ─ you only have one chance to get it right.
4. Determine the unique selling proposition for your product and from that, create your headline in a clear, short phrase.
5. Remember people are asking, “What is in it for me?”
Talk to them about their feelings, values, and the benefits of your product.
6. Be honest with your prospect.
7. Write as much copy as you need and no more.
8. Don’t be boring, but don’t be flippant.
9. State your biggest benefits right away, don’t hold them back for the big finish, many people will never read your big finish.
10. Sub-headlines can be questions that the customer is asking.
11. Use bullets and underlines as well as bold face type, but sparingly.
12. Detail your offer and summarise the offer throughout the copy.
13. Repeat your headlines and summarise your offers again.
14. Ask for action.
15. Make it easy to order. “All you have to do is…”
16. Don’t trust ad agencies or do image advertising.
17. Test on a small basis before rolling out on a large scale.
18. Be 100% believable.
19. Hit all the hot buttons you can.
20. Make your offer personal and exciting.
21. Use the many devices available such as sweepstakes, free gifts, new and improved, guarantees and money-back, limited time offers, etc.

I can’t stress this enough: great copy sells products and services. It’s worth all the blood, sweat, tears, and time you take to craft a marketing message that is appealing, engaging, and moves the reader to take action.

Carpentry and Construction Technology Program Becoming Widespread
Phil Laboon

The construction industry is one industry which offers a good number of employment opportunities today, especially to carpenters. As well as new construction projects, carpenters continue to be in demand in repair and remodeling work. Specifically, the markets which are most promising for these skilled workers are Residential building with the rise in housing plans, as well as commercial carpentry. In 2006 alone, carpenters held approximately 1.5 million jobs.

Some factors attributed to the high demand for Carpentry and Construction technicians include the imminent high rate of retirement of workers in the coming years and the comparatively smaller number of people with the right carpentry and construction qualifications getting into the industry. It is actually being forecast that the number of salary jobs in the construction industry will continue to grow by an average of 11 percent until 2014.

As the construction industry maintains its competitiveness, more training programs are being offered by vocational and technical institutions. People who would like to make themselves more valued employees can do so by earning an associate degree in carpentry and construction technology in less than two years.

Carpentry involves a variety of work from blueprint reading, cutting and sizing wood and other construction materials, installing drywall and windows, roof framing, laying floors, making cabinets and building stairs among many others.

Due to the nature of their job, well-rounded carpenters who can work in remodeling and residential and commercial construction with ease have a greater potential for advancement. More than all the workers involved in construction, the carpenters utilize the highest number of hand tools ranging from the hammer, chisel, sanders as well as power tools such as saws and electric drills.

Although carpentry skills can be gained while doing actual work, there are now vocational schools that offer formal training and apprenticeships on this field. Employers want an employee who can come to work already equipped with the carpentry skills he or she needs to have to do a good job. Additionally, most employers prefer to hire carpenters who have undergone apprenticeship because of the extensive training it provides. Some even give weight to previous experience in the military service.

Carpenters who want to land in an entry-level job are not necessarily required to have college education. High school graduates with the right skills, notably in mathematics and problem solving, good eye and hand coordination as well as physically fitness can are more likely to be qualified to start working.

However, before one is considered as a skilled carpenter, several years of formal education and hands-on training through apprenticeship are vital.

The proper instruction and basic training can be gained from accredited vocational and technical schools as well as from online programs. A course in carpentry and construction technology normally combines classroom lecture and practical or on-the-job training.

With the right knowledge and skills, any carpenter can outshine other applicants for the job and has a bigger opportunity to start work at a higher level compared to those with no formal training. As they gain experience, they can later advance to the position of either carpentry supervisor or general construction supervisor.

Construction projects show no sign of stopping in the future. Whether there’s a global financial crisis or not, structures from houses to commercial buildings, roads to bridges will always be built. Carpenters who have good experience and are capable of performing different tasks have a bright future ahead of them.

A good laugh will do wonders for you as smiling and laughing lowers your stress levels, wins you a friendly reputation, and helps your usually tense co-workers and bosses to relax.

Humor on the job will do a lot for your career, but there are a number of things you need to know about laughter and humor in the place of work.

Feeling good and having humor in our lives can do wonders for our position and productivity, which means that there is definitely a place for some humor on the job. Having a smiling face will help your co-workers and supervisors feel better being around you, and you may well end up reaping rewards by laughing more in the workplace. But you need to know how to apply humor in your work environment.

Laughing has been proven to be a huge stress reliever, letting you feel better and becoming more productive. To be able to loosen up and have some fun is great, so why not take that approach to work each day and lighten up around the work place? Smiling can make your job easier, more than ever if you work in customer service or sales. But there’s certainly a right and incorrect way to use humor in the workplace.

One of the main rules with humor in the workplace is to avoid controversy when you are joking on the job. Stay well away from joking about political affairs, race and religion.

Sex is another unsafe topic because of sexual harassment in the workplace. Make sure that you stay well within the lines of decency.

Never make fun at other people within your organization, as you are trying to win friends with the people you work with, and not set against them. If you can’t help yourself, please be extremely careful.

Poking fun at the work you do or the industry you work in is a good way to earn some smiles from your co-workers and supervisors. While these types of workplace jokes may not be so funny at home or with friends, as they really don’t appreciate the pressures of your employment, the people who are around you in your job will definitely appreciate the humor about their frustrations and will be able to laugh over the situations instead of complaining.

Making jokes about the ups and downs of your trade is a safe way to add wit to the place of work. You will have the benefit of knowing precisely what your co-workers have to face each and every day, and it’s much better as it helps to let go of tensions and lower stress levels by getting them to chuckle about the situations they come across frequently.

The very best time for some humor is when you are not working, but still in the region of the people you work with, such as a coffee or lunch break. You can also make an effort to be funny on the job, but when you are working, it’s a good idea to use jokes much more thinly than you would normally do.

In general, humor in the workplace is a superb area to flex your creative muscles and give your job a little boost.

Humor in the workplace helps stress levels to drop, and your co-workers will feel better about working with you. Start gradually, and add a few more safe jokes here and there to incite a few smiles. Everyone will feel better because of your efforts.

What really does not change in the world is the need for change. It is this bug in you or the environment around you which is constantly after you for a change. If one changes her career 3-4 times in her life time, that much she needs to carefully manage her career change. Mind you, career change is synonymous to changing boats in the middle of a storm.

Managing Your Career Change

You have to evaluate your need for a change pragmatically. This way, you can stop yourself from falling prey to impulsive actions. Being pragmatic or practical means thinking in the way that both you and your detractor think about you. This gives you the advantage of multidirectional thinking.

1. Develop Career Goals Early In Life: Broadly speaking, this is deciding where you want to be at each key stage in your life (making goals measurable). Your first step more or less decides most of your career path. You must also commit yourself to your goals.

2. Prepare The Ground: You have to acquire new skills and education. Knowing exactly what the employer is looking for should guide you here. Make the right connections. What organizations you belong to tells a new employer a lot about who you are and what your future potential is. Keep your network and resume updated.

3. Assess Where You Stand: At this stage you will understand where you stand with respect to your career goals. How do you know that you are lagging behind, if you are? Most career goals are a combination of having dreams and being realistic. Lack of either or both of these often shows up as frustrations in both work and at home. It is this that paves way for readjusting your pace with respect to your career change.

4. Readjusting The Pace Of Your Career: This is the most important step. It is this middle phase of your career change that decides whether you can change jobs easily and whether you succeed at the new one. As a career change is a well-defined goal, identify the next 2-3 job prospects at this stage. For this, you need to ask yourself a few questions:

a. Can you grow in your present job or industry as a whole? If you are in the middle of your career, you should continue in your chosen profession. If you are in a small organization you probably have reached the top very early but that may be the highest that you can go.

b. Am I going to stick to this salary, if this is the top? If your salary is not at least comparable with your peer group, this is a red flag. These two facts are proof that there is opportunity beckoning outside your organization.

c. Is it easy to find another job for a higher salary now? This is the essence of career change for most people.

d. Will the change take you closer to your personal goals? Does it increase your stature or help buy a new home or a car. The same logic also holds true for reducing any debt you may have.

Managing your career change also involves making a smooth exit from your present job and entry into the new one. It ends with getting acclimatized to the new environment.
