John W. Knoll Chief of Police

March 30, 2012

Dear Resident,
On April 14th and 15th 2012 the Atco Raceway will again host the annual Honda Days. Although this event has been taking place for several years without incident last year it caught the Raceway and this agency by surprise, with a record attendance, which caused traffic jams, delays and inconvenienced you the resident and the motoring public. Over the past year my staff and I have met with state and local officials and the owner of the Raceway. We have established some safe guards to curb a repeat of last year. The Raceway has opened more lanes to alleviate congestion and to allow quicker entry into the Raceway. The motor cross track is in the process of being eliminated which adds 650+ parking spots that were not available last year. The State has also authorized the use of the land under the power lines for parking. The raceway has secured open private property in the event that offsite parking is needed. The raceway has charted shuttle buses to transport the attendee’s safely from these offsite areas. Last year in July a trial run of this system was implemented during the Pan American races and worked well. This year to help you we will be designating certain streets as no parking areas (see below). I am aware that some areas residents need to utilize the street to park their vehicles. I will offer a Parking Permit from the Police Department for you to place in your vehicle on these dates to avoid any inconvenience. The vehicle that you request the permit for must be registered to your address. Permits can be picked up at the Police Department the week prior to the event. I would urge you that if all possible to please park off the street.

I ask that all residents when coming and going to your home to avoid Jackson road if possible and to utilize the back roads that you are familiar with to reach your destination. This will help us greatly in controlling the expected heavy traffic on Jackson Road. There will be an enormous amount of traffic and although we will be attempting to curb the traffic on the side roads you will experience extra traffic on these roads. The Priority of this agency is to ensure your safety, as well as the visitors to the raceway. The Waterford Township Police Department along with the assistance of the neighboring Police Departments will do everything possible to assure you a safe and happy weekend.

Streets that will be designated NO PARKING :
Tremont Ave., Atsion Rd., Linden Ave. Ashland Ave., Lincoln Ave.

Streets that will be designated PARKING BY PERMIT ONLY:
Anthony Dr., Plymouth Dr., Lexington Ave., Pinewood Lane, Hillside Dr., Chateau Ct.
Ashford Terr.

Thank You for your cooperation
Chief John W. Knoll
